Traveling Minds (Houston Texas)

When I’m in the car I began to get immersed in my own thoughts. During this drive I changed the scenery surrounding me mentally and began thinking of different scenarios or different situations that would enhance my own thoughts and individuality. Traveling Minds is a series that allows me to reinvent what’s around me and make it into my own with the use of color, saturation, desaturation, and over exaggeration. These photographs were captured while I was in the car on my way to Houston. Each photo edited was based on different songs in my playlist and how the music made me feel while I was immersing myself in the environment around me. I will continue this journey, capturing the various places/ cities around me and try and move with what’s moving with me.

“Where we land” ( Dallas, TX)

Being born and raised in Dallas has been a big part of who I am today, especially as a Black woman. The culture that lies in Dallas runs deep. You always hear about how Dallas is primarily an African American city and that at times it can be a dangerous area that you enter. However, it is rare that someone brings up the history of this major Texan city. Capturing Dallas is one thing, but being able to talk to the people in the neighborhood or visit hidden staple communities is another thing. I wanted to document some of the hidden history that is held in the towns/cities in Dallas. I will travel to different establishments such as towns, churches, museums, landmarks to get as much information as possible and capture the big/tiny things that hold meaning. By using interesting framing, scaling, angles, and colorful editing, I am inviting a new perspective of the space into the viewer’s mind and leaving their interpretation/thoughts to wonder as they read the facts about the space and ponder at what is in front of them.
